A gem of a find. This relates many things in the camp. Only anecdote about music is of a pet pig that marched in time to the soldiers’ marching. But the descriptions of camp life in the Civil War in a Negro regiment is of great value. Of even more value is the relating of the accomplishments of Susie King Taylor and other women in her family. This cannot be overstated given the time and the prejudice that confronted people of color in that era.
